On February 13, 2014, the workshop „Renewable Energies and Rural Communities” took place in Alba Iulia. The activity was part of the project “Towards 100% RES Communities” (www.100-res-communities.eu, financed through Intelligent Energy Europe) and was organized by “Vasile Alecsandri” University of Bacău and the Agency for Local Energy Alba (ALEA, www.alea.ro). The goals of the workshop have been: dissemination of the project’s results in Alba County, award ceremony for the Romanian communities who participated in the competition „Renewable Energy Sources Champions League in Romania, 2013), presentation of the initiative Covenant of Mayors (www.covenantofmayors.eu) and of the Romanian RURENER Club, which the rural communities from Alba County have been invited to join.

The workshop gathered participants from: Alba County Council, „1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia, the awarded communities (Taşca from Neamţ County, Mizil from Prahova County, Alba Iulia from Alba County, and Baia Mare from Maramureş County), and the mayors of the rural communities in Alba County.

“Vasile Alecsandri” University of Bacău has been represented by Associate Professor Elena Nechita, who also presented the project BLISS. In accordance with the topics of the workshop, several modalities which can support sustainable development through software applications have been suggested. As well, the availability of the project team has been affirmed in approaching problems that communities face with, and in developing modern solutions for them.
